Beginning Tuesday, 4/18, through Thursday, 4/27, 3rd - 5th graders will be PARCC testing. There are a number of ways that you can support your child before taking a standardized test.
Make sure your child comes to school on time. Once a test has started, the child may not join the class.
Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a healthy breakfast. Many teachers report that students who don't do well on tests haven't gotten enough sleep, and haven't eaten breakfast on the morning of the test. Doing both of these things will ensure that your child is working at full capacity.
Make sure your child is prepared. Students will need to have their Chromebook fully charged for all of the tests as well as a pen or a pencil and scratch paper for the math tests.
Remain positive. Staying calm will help your child stay calm. If he/she gets nervous about the test or is likely to experience anxiety during the test, help them practice some relaxation techniques that could be tried once he/she is taking the test.
Schedule 4/18 Math, 4/19 Math, 4/20 Reading, 4/21 Math, 4/24 Reading, 4/25 Reading, 4/26 or 4/27 Math (for some 5th graders).
Each test is between 60-90 minutes long and all students take one test a day. Make up tests are done in the afternoons and on 4/27 and 4/28.
