December 16, 2014Research shows that students who participate in physical activity before they begin their academic classes have a longer attention span, have higher reading comprehension scores, and perform better on standardized tests than students who do not exercise. Woodstock Community Unit School District 200 has been awarded a grant to enhance physical activity and healthy lifestyles for our students and their families that we are calling SHAPE Woodstock.

November 19, 2014Recess is held daily at lunchtime for all early learning and elementary school students. Whenever possible, recess will be held outside. Indoor recess will be held during inclement weather (rain, harsh snow storm, or when the wind chill is at or below 0 degrees for elementary schools and 10 degrees at Verda Dierzen Early Learning Center). Parents are reminded to dress their child appropriately for the weather conditions. Students at Olson must have boots and snowpants to play in the snow.
October 30, 2014Band is off to a great start, and have been working on building confidence with our first 3 notes. It does take time, patience, and practice, and we ARE getting there. A little practice each day will go a long way to building that confidence and muscle strength needed for adding notes 4 and 5. Let me know if you need some tips! Most of all, please remember that playing an instrument takes time. Please do not let the kids give up! Little bits of encouragement go a long way.
October 21, 2014We are grateful to all of the parents, staff, community members, and students who supported the PTO sponsored Mustang March. Our PTO raised over $4,500 which will be used to support many school events and activities.
